148. The hardest test 3

Am I right? When you have to take a hard test, you’d much rather stay in bed that day.

It was different with Abraham. He got up very early. He wasn’t tested in math or science. God tested his faith.

God’s voice: "Abraham!"

Abraham: "Here I am."

God‘s voice: "Take lsaac, your only son who you love, and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him on the mountain; I’ll show you where."

Whoever doesn’t know God nor love Him would think that God is cruel. Abraham didn’t think badly about the One who was testing him.

The Bible tells us simply: Abraham got up early and saddled his donkey. He split wood for the offering, and took two servants with him as well as his son, lsaac.

They walked almost 75 miles. It was a long way, one where they could have just as well turned around at any time.

After three days, Abraham saw the mountain. He turned to his servants.

Abraham: "Stay here with the donkey. My son and I are going to go to worship God. After that we’ll return."

Did you hear that? Abraham said: We will come again. He believed firmly that God would bring lsaac back to life.

The son carried the wood, the father carried the vessel with the glowing coals as well as the knife. And so they walked together.

lsaac: "Father!"

Abraham: "Yes, my son."

lsaac: "We have the wood and the fire, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"

Abraham: "We’ll leave that to God. He’ll provide the sacrifice, my son."

When they got to the place that God showed them, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son lsaac and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. Then he took the knife.

Angel: "Abraham! Abraham!"

Abraham: "Here I am."

Angel: "Do not hurt your son. Now I see that you love God more than you love your only son.”

Abraham passed the hardest test there was.

A few hundred yards from Moriah stood the cross many years later where God sacrificed His only Son, Jesus, so that we could become His children if we believe in Him. Would you like to pray with me right now?

"Lord Jesus, I will believe in you like Abraham did. What can happen to someone who has such a faith?!"
