7. On the strongest one’s sideThe Philistines went to war yet again against the Israelites. David’s older brothers were on the front lines. He was to bring them food and find out how they were doing. When he came to the war zone he saw a real giant - almost ten feet tall! - on the other side. His name was Goliath. He scolded the Israelites and cursed them. All the soldiers were afraid of him, even King Saul. Had they forgotten that God is stronger than anyone? Goliath: "Hey, you dumb Israelites! Ha, you’re afraid! Hahaha! I’ll make you into tasty bird food. Your God won’t be able to help you. I’m stronger than He is." David: "Did you all hear that? He’s making fun of God! Are you going to let him do this?" David was upset with this insulting Philistine. It was one thing to make fun of the Israelites, but it was another thing to make fun of God. He went too far! David went immediately to King Saul and told him that he’d fight the giant Goliath. David was serious. He only took his shepherd’s staff and his slingshot and walked toward Goliath. God is stronger – that gave him courage. Many of the soldiers couldn’t believe their eyes as they saw the shepherd boy; they held their breath in anticipation. Goliath came nearer and nearer. Goliath: "Am I a dog that you come after me with a stick? Do you think your God is going to protect you? Hahaha, I’m stronger than He is. I’m going to kill you." David: "You come at me with a sword and spear, but I come at you with the name of Almighty God, whom you have cursed. He IS stronger than you are! I will defeat you and the whole world will see that Israel serves the living God." David took his sling, swung it around… (noise of a slingshot) Goliath: "Ooooooooouch!" (noise of a crash) The stone in David’s slingshot hit the giant directly in the head. He fell to the ground, dead. What good did it do for Goliath to curse God? Who was the strongest in the end? God is stronger! People: Narrator, Goliath, David © Copyright: CEF Germany |
